Introduction to Skipton
The market town of Skipton (originally called Sheep Town) is known as the gateway to the Yorkshire Dales. It is a delightful place to visit at any time of the year and makes an ideal base for visiting the Yorkshire Dales, Bronte Country or even the Lake District. Skiptons unique appeal is a result of its ancient history combined with the hustle and bustle of a living market town.
Skipton is twinned Simbach-am-Inn in Germany. The charters were signed in Simbach in 1982 and in Skipton in 1983. Simbach is a small town in Bavaria which is very picturesque and has much in common with Skipton.
